Dell Venue 8 7000 Review, The Little Tablet That Could!!^^
The thing that makes this tablet stand out by far is its sleek and thin design. The Dell Venue 8 7000 has a build quality that is second to none. The Dell Venue 8 7000 has a cool metal construction and the company has boasted this tablet as the thinnest in the world at 6.1mm. The second most peculiar feature of this tablet is the 3 camera RealSense 3D technology. That's right! It has 3 rear facing cameras and it shoots 8MP pictures with the ability to add depth to the background scenery in every photo you take. Its a nifty feature however the camera placement is a bit awkward because, it's in the place where it feels natural to hold the device, so, it's easily covered up with the fingers or hand. So you have to make a concentrated effort not to cover up the camera lens. It does take good photo's as well, just not in low lit environments. The front facing camera is 2MP, it may just be me, but it feels like the front facing camera takes better shots than the rear facing 8MP 3D camera (but I'm not much of a photographer on my tablet).
Since the Dell Venue 8 7000's release in January 2015 it has received an update to android lollipop which makes the device faster in terms of fluidity and a bit more stable. Even though, there still seems to be a few incompatible apps from the google play store (what tablet doesn't have them). However, most of the apps that you find incompatible are usually in the game department. It does play games quite nicely (The ones that work), but if you want a gaming tablet go with the Nvidia Shield. Most productivity, social media and general purpose apps work just fine, its just a few games here and there that I tried either didn't load up (black screen at launch) or it crashed at launch.
Now, I must talk about the Dell Venue 8 7000's beautiful 8.4" OLED display! The screen on this bad boy is gorgeous with a resolution of 2560x1600 and 359 ppi (Pixels Per Inch). The colors just pop out of this screen and it is on par with some of the QHD displays you see on some other android devices such as the Nexus 6. Watching movies on this tablet are a dream, and it seems to have a very nice refresh rate as well since the movies I watched on the device looked really smooth. Now, this may have just been the dell video app that I was watching the movie in but, if you fast forward too much on a movie it will result in freezing up and a restart of the tablet. This was the only other area where I encountered a bug of some sort.
The speakers on board are actually pretty loud and with the max audio drivers the sounds are refined so it doesn’t sound tin canny and the speakers don't rattle at max volume. Overall, I really love the sound that comes out of this little tablet, it almost sounds like a nice little bluetooth speaker.
The next biggest plus to this device is its battery life! This will last a day and more easily, since I use it for work as well as other every day things, it holds up very well. Usually, at the end of the day it's at about 47% which is really good for an android tablet, and has a incredible standby time. So if I forget to charge it at night I will still make it through half the next day without needing a charge. Dell claim is 9.5 hours of battery and I would say that, that is accurate. It does however, take some time to charge, about 3.5 to 4 hours to do the trick.
